Students honored with 2024 School of Public Health Excellence Awards

Congratulations to Carlos Morales and Kang Ho, students in the Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health (FSNH) Program who were honored at the 2024 School of Public Health Excellence Awards.

The Excellence Awards are given annually, spotlighting exemplary faculty, staff and students working in the School. Winners were publicly recognized and celebrated at an event held in the Hans Rosling Center on May 14.  

Carlos Morales 

2024 Outstanding Undergraduate Student

Carlos Morales is a senior in the Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health major and was awarded 2024 Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award.

As an advocate for justice and community, Carlos has strengthened his stride and voice within the Food Systems major. His commitment to public service leadership can be seen through his volunteer service as a cooking facilitator with Seattle’s non-profit, Solid Ground. Carlos has also worked towards anti-racism on an organizational level, serving as a board director for the Bellingham Food Bank for the past few years. The faculty of his program have been crucial to his path of imagining what an improved food system could look like on multiple scales and encouraging him to be the change and think critically.

Khang Ho 

2024 Outstanding Master’s Student, Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health  

Khang Ho is a graduate student in the Master of Public Health and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) training programs where he works towards health equity in food security, nutrition-related chronic disease, and eating disorders. 

For his capstone project, Khang partnered with Seattle Fresh Bucks, a produce assistance program, to collect and analyze produce price data, which informed recommendations to adjust benefit levels for low-income families. Khang’s fieldwork focused on implementation considerations for nutrition and physical activity guidelines in early childhood education to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Currently, with his practicum, he is designing and delivering a weight-inclusive care training for physicians at Seattle Children’s Hospital..
