Food Systems majors to present at UW Undergraduate Research Symposium

The 27th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium at the University of Washington will take place on the UW Seattle campus on Friday, May 17, 2024. 

Three undergraduate seniors who are majoring in Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health will present poster sessions at the upcoming UW Undergraduate Symposium.

  • Elissa Fong, a UW senior, will present “European Church Construction Rates as an Indicator for Health Implications During the Black Death.”  Fong is also a co-presenter on session titles, “Parsing the English Catalog of Books” and “The Human Cost of Medical Debt in the United States.” 
  • Cayen Rong, a UW senior, will co-present on “Dysbiosis of the Gut Microbiome due to Early Life Exposure to the Legacy Flame Retardant BDE-99 Contributes to Up-Regulated Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines but Down-Regulated Drug-Metabolizing Enzymes in Colon.”
  • Katherine Sun, a UW senior, will present on “Patient Activation and Self-Efficacy in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Management.”

This event is organized by the Office of Undergraduate Research, which facilitates research experiences for undergraduates in all academic disciplines. 

The event includes poster, visual arts and design, performing arts, and oral presentations by students from all academic disciplines and all three UW campuses, plus invited student presenters from peer institutions.
